The Stanmore Jafferys Cycling London 2 Brighton ride in September 2019 raised over £33,000 for WF-AID’s Ali Asghar Water Appeal!
Following the incredible fundraising efforts by Stanmore Jafferys, the WF-AID team met with them at the end of November to present potential projects to fund. Shabbar Dhalla (Vice President of WF) along with Mehdi Abbas Juma (WF-AID Project Coordinator), met with Shafique Govani (Chair, Stanmore Jafferys) and Mohamed Ladha (Head, SJ Cycling) to look at and consider the numerous water projects we are supporting on continental Africa.
We presented the projects and our outlook as being able to provide longer term, sustainable solutions rather than “band-aid” initiatives; this vision will not only provide water solutions to impoverished communities for decades, but also a means of sadaqah jariyah for the donors. You can read more about our Ali Asghar Water Appeal and our sustainable projects here.
After careful consideration, Stanmore Jafferys has decided to support the following projects:
- Pate Primary School Water Desalination Plant – Lamu County, Kenya
- Burani Water Desalination Plant – Kwale County, Kenya
- Water well digging and borehole maintenance project – Mbale, Uganda
- Marginalised village project (10 shallow wells) – Mnazini, Kenya
WF-AID would like to thank Stanmore Jafferys and the generous donors who have helped to fund these four projects, all of which will have a long term impact on their communities. We will be sharing updates on these projects soon, so keep an eye out to see your donations in action.
Our Ali Asghar Water Appeal runs throughout the year. You can donate a full water well, or contribute towards one here.
